Where is San Francisco Airport?

San Francisco International Airport (IATA: SFO, ICAO: KSFO, FAA LID: SFO), or simply San Francisco Airport, is located 21 kilometres (13 miles) south of downtown San Francisco, California, United States, adjacent to the cities of Millbrae and San Bruno in unincorporated San Mateo County. It is often referred to as SFO Airport. The SanFrancisco Airport has flights to destinations throughout North America and is a major gateway to Europe, Asia, and Australia.

SFO Airport is the largest airport in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is the 2nd busiest airport in California, after Los Angeles International Airport. As of 2011, San Francisco International Airport is the 7th largest in the United States and the 22nd busiest airport in the world, with 40,810,141 passengers.

San Francisco Airport is a major hub for United Airlines and is Virgin America's principal base of operations. It is the sole maintenance hub of United Airlines. SFO Airport is also a focus city for Alaska Airlines.

In 2012, San Francisco Airport was named Best Airport in the Americas by the readers of Frequent Business Traveler, an online publication written for and by affluent frequent business travelers.
