Arlanda Airport Train Details

Arlanda Airport Train

Arlanda Airport train photo

There are multiple train stations at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, with different services operating at each.

The Arlanda Express Train operates a dedicated rail service between Arlanda Airport and the city centre. These high speed trains will wisk you to or from the airport in 20 minutes. Arlanda Airport train s run every 15 minutes during normal times and every 10 minutes during peak times.

Arlanda Airport train tickets can be purchased:

  • At information desks in the terminals
  • At grey self-service machines located next to the escalators/lifts leading down to the stations
  • Note: a surcharge of SEK 50 applies to tickets bought on the train

Catch the train from Arlanda Airport:

  • Trains operate from Arlanda South and Arlanda North stations
  • Use Arlanda South if your flight leaves from Terminals 2, 3 or 4
  • Use Arlanda North if your flight is from terminal 5
  • Tip: download the ARN Arlanda Airport's app to check the time to the next train

Local Trains

Arlanda Central Station (Arlanda C) is located in the middle of SkyCity. SkyCity is located between Terminals 4 and 5 at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Services include the Uppsala commuter rail, or Upptåget. The Upptåget which goes northwards to Uppsala and Tierp and sometimes Gävle, but also Upplands Väsby, which is a connection point to Stockholm Transport (SL) suburban commuter trains to central Stockholm. This option takes 35 minutes and local transport tickets can be used and bought at the entrance to the station, though you have to pay a station access fee of SEK 60.

IHT Tip: There are also regional trains on the Linköping - Stockholm - Gävle route, which costs SEK 95 (2nd class) to central Stockholm. These trains take 20 minutes, just like the Arlanda Express. This service operates only once every other hour, but frankly, if you are on time there is no reason whatsoever to take Arlanda Express, as the regional train is much cheaper (though not as cheap as local transport).

Long Distance Trains

Long-distance trains from Stockholm operate to points in central Sweden (including Uppsala, Södertälje, Gävle, Hudiksvall, Sundsvall, Östersund, Åre, Borlänge, Falun, Leksand, Mora, Nyköping, Norrköping, Linköping). It is not, however, permitted to use these trains to travel from the airport to central Stockholm.

Long-distance trains depart from the underground Arlanda Central Station (Arlanda C). There, the SJ Railway Company has a travel office where you can buy long-distance train tickets and get information about train times.
