Edinburgh Driving Stress Level: 6/10

Edinburgh is a big and busy city and it will therefore come as no surprise that driving around the centre can be difficult at the best of times. Parking is difficult and traffic wardens are vigilant and never far away. However, driving outside provides the freedom needed to fully appreciate this part of Scotland, and many people choose to drive to nearby Glasgow, which can be reached in approximately one hour.

The City Council in Edinburgh is continually trying to improve traffic levels and has introduced restricted areas. However, many people simply prefer to park for free outside of the centre, in the 'peripheral zone', and walk into central Edinburgh. Those wishing to park in the city will find parking spaces and garages along the Castle Terrace (close to the castle), on Lothian Road, along Princes Street, at St. John Hill, and also at the St. James Centre.
